One of my favorite fashion dictates is that every woman needs a great purse [Fashionable]5/17/2013 9:32:23 AM
One of my favorite fashion dictates is that every woman needs a great purse Yes I strongly agree. I think it makes a woman look more sophisticated and style concious. But those aren't Dooney's most beautiful bags at all. It's like trying to judge a Coach purse (which if famous for their leathers) by one of their cloth bags. Same with Dooney. They're not famous for their PVC coated cloth bags, but their All Weather Leather bags and their other various leathers. Up till about a year and a half ago, I was a Wal-Mart purse girl. I didn't see the logic in spending a lot of money on a handbag. But I also had to replace my purses every 2 months because they fell apart on me! So, in spring of 2006 I've got a ticket book out to Washington DC to see some family. I decide I want a "quality" purse to take with me and got an Eddie Bauer purse and a matching Eddie Bauer laptop case. By day 4 I was on my way home and in the airport parking garage looking for my car. While walking with my luggage, I had my laptop in it's brand new case and I carried it with the thick should strap over the my left shoulder. Just as I spotted my car, the shoulder strap broke and not only did my laptop crash to the ground, but there was a metal buckle on that strap and it came up and hit me in the face. I had a fat lip for the remainder of the day. I had spent almost $200 on this purse/laptop matching set and it didn't last 1 week, plus it lost me a camera, cash, dropped my laptop and gave me a fat lip. So needless to say it didn't renew my faith in trying to buy "quality" handbags. Six months later I'm cleaning in my house and I see a show on Dooney and Bourke handbags. The company representative is talking about how their bags are made to last forever. Their particular claims about how they last are what grabbed me. So that day I ordered 2. They were everything they said they'd be! Now I have about 10 Dooneys and I LOVE them. I also now have a Louis Vuitton from the store in Champs Elysees. It's beautiful, but I still find myself carrying my black Dooney Glove Leather handbag more often. I don't spend tons on shoes of clothing, but I love my handbags! Below are pictures of some of the purses I have now. I agree that for some women fashion does dictate that they have a good purse. There are some women who don feel they need any type of purse to define them and I admire them for their attitude towards what defines them as a woman. My mother-in-law was that way. She is a very elegant woman and she always wore good quality clothing but she was extremely conservative in her purchases. Quality over excess. I am the same way. I have always bought quality but I wasn excessive as before I got married or when I was growing up. My Mom did the same thing with me, that I have done with my daughters and son. She enjoyed buying for her children more than she did for herself but she too enjoyed quality. I have read that in some cases salespeople are taught to look at a woman purse in regard to their ability to purchase goods. It amazing if you think about it. We all heard about extremely wealthy people going into car dealerships dressed in very casual attire, while unknown to the salespeople they are in fact, extremely wealthy. I know people who have done this throughout life. This is the exact opposite of the theory of the designer purse. In the car scenario, the salesperson later discovers that they have the ability to write out a check for cash and purchase several cars and the salesperson is blown away. We are talking about set prices in department stores versus price negotiation in a purchasing a car. It makes sense. This could be a fun experiment. One could enter a designer store dressed very casually without any indications of their ability to purchase from the outside and see how quickly they are confronted by a salesperson. They could then dress to the nines and see if it makes a difference. This could be an enlightening experience. I don think a designer purse makes anyone better than anyone else. If a person feels that way, they are sadly mistaken. It who we are inside that makes us special. Still, it is nice to have a purse or anything of good quality because it is not only attractive but it lasts longer. I have coach purses but they were given to me by my daughter. I love them because they are of good quality. I prefer to spend my money on my children, even though they are adults. I guess at my age, 52 and even when I was younger, I had more fun buying for them. It wasn about the money, it just more fun for me to buy for them. I don know the reasons, maybe it because I have no need to impress anyone. I know who I am, I don feel the need to impress anyone. I do enjoy my Coach purses but I think the reason I enjoy them is because my daughter loves me to the degree that she wanted me to have something special. If I look at it that way, I love my purses. Maybe she realizes that I have always enjoyed shopping for her and her little sister and she now wants me to shop more for myself. If I look at it that way, then it a beautiful thing. I know this sounds funny but maybe if I had all sons instead of two daughters and a son, I would have kept up with loving fashion to the degree that I had when I was younger. I always noticed that women with sons still keep up more with their own love for fashion. For me, it was so much fun doing it for my daughters because they were so young. Maybe I was living through them because they reminded me so much of myself when I was younger. Because I love fashion in general, I feel that once I had two daughters, it was so much fun getting the latest fashions for them. I have always chosen nice clothing for myself, that not the issue but now that my daughters are adults, maybe it time I got back to my own love of fashion for myself. So, if it for that reason, I do love my Coach purses, I way overdue getting back to enjoying my own fashion sense fully.
