SAID Newsletter - September 2018
SAID prepares for Spring as the dusty winds blow away the cold frosts and make way for new growth on the farm.
SAID is celebrating our 60th year and our events are all geared up to provide a diamond experience. Our Diamond 60th Celebration – a fabulous must-attend exhibition; our annually adored Dog Jog; a wondrous trip to be announced for our annual raffle, but you’ll have to read ‘til-the end!
We’ve had our Comrades Champion running for our animals; we honour the memories of our beloved furry collectors; we prepare with your help for the Touws River (Western Cape) first establishment outreach and we celebrate our three-pawed pals!
Our ever-green reminder to start your spring cleaning and help us assist the animals in our care through the re-sale of your pre-loved items. Don’t forget - we can collect!
Good bye winter lie-ins, lattes and late sunrises…
Meet Rex and meet Rax
They both love adventures,
and they both leave three tracks
‘Our three-pawed pals’ we say
And after mom fell in love,
Happy Rex went away
But not 6 months went by, Rax arrived with us
So he called Rex’s mom’s sister
And packed up his stuff
Leaving three tracks behind him, to Mpumalanga he went
An amputation won’t stop him
Because until Rax reached his home– he wasn’t content
Meet Rex and meet Rax
Their moms are sisters
Though they’ve both been through surgery
And now leave three tracks
You almost don’t notice with those tails going wag, wag, wag
In our striving to drive access to veterinary care, SAID has relentlessly knocked on doors for investment into the mentorship programme for graduate Animal Health Technicians.
Being part of the animal welfare sector, that is an excluded focus of both corporate and government funding, it has taken dogged determination and implicit belief in the value of our contribution to veterinary care access, to realise success.
We are proud and elated to share with you that we have sourced a contribution that will see successive volumes of 10 graduates per year be given the unique opportunities of development and growth that we have prepared for them.
In keeping with our mission, the employment potential for these graduates will find their current 95% post graduate unemployment rate decrease. An equally amazing win will be the employment opportunities for un-skilled, semi-skilled and skilled people to support every successful graduate. Without a doubt our work has only just begun and there will be mountains we have yet to climb to ensure access to veterinary care for all. We are more than conquerors and have only success in the forefront of our minds – every animal deserves veterinary care, an owner fluent in animal care needs and a healthy life!
Contributions to this youth employment strategy will be gladly accepted, please contact Holly Doherty, Fundraising Manager, firstname.lastname@example.org or 083-640-8824 for further information about how your care can benefit you.
In Loving Memory
Although they will never know, our dear furry collectors bring hope and light to all of fur-kind. So we honour and love them as best we can, for when their time comes, it is always too soon.
Although they are gone, they will never be forgotten. They left their paw prints on countless lives and through this they will forever live on.
Spring is in the air!
A reminder to start your spring cleaning and help us assist the animals in our care through the resale of your pre-loved items. The convenience being that we can collect from you!
Please note we cannot resell broken electronics/appliances; soiled/torn clothing and linen; magazines and encyclopaedias; videos and bird cages.

Just a reminder that The Society for Animals in Distress is no longer partnered with Bounty Hunters Charity Shop in Melville.
SAID has increased the potential of this income stream and all your pre-loved, sellable items raise much needed funds through Wits Hospice, Monthly Pop up shops, online sales and our showroom - Pre-loved bringing More-love to our furry patients.
Thank You Ayanda
SAID’s very own Marathon Man driving access to veterinary care
Ayanda! Ayanda! Ayanda! You can still hear the cheers for our comrades 4th running of the marathon. With a Bill Rowan medal in hand, Ayanda is a true animal champion for animals.
Ayanda is an Animal Handler and trainee Hospital Administrator for SAID. Ayanda’s commitment and passion inspired overwhelming pledges of support for every kilometre he ran. Ayanda’s determination and YOUR generosity resulted in SAID providing many more animals with veterinary care. Thank you!
